Susan Suarez is the Vice President for Enterprise Risk Management at Capital One. Susan Suarez joined Capital One in early 2017 to lead the Enterprise Risk Management Incentive Risk, Country Risk, Insider Threat, and Compliance Oversight Programs. She also oversees the Corporate Policy Office and Capital One’s Risk Framework, Risk Governance, and Lines of Defense portfolios and is responsible for ensuring Capital One meets Heightened Standards regulatory expectations.
Prior to joining Capital One, Susan worked at the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House serving as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Management. In that role, Susan advised and assisted the President and National Security Advisor on developing national security and foreign policies. She also performed as the chief operating and financial officer and principal policy advisor to the National Security Advisor on the internal management and operations of the NSC. As head of the NSC’s continuity staff, Susan ensured continuity of government and operations during unfolding crises. While at the NSC, Susan also served as Deputy Executive Secretary and Director for Budget and Finance.
Susan’s career experience includes the Department of Defense (DOD) where she was a Budget Analyst, advising the President of the National Defense University and the Chief Financial Officer on financial resources and budget management. Prior to the DOD, she served as a Financial Analyst and consulted clients in the private sector.
Susan holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from The College of William and Mary in Economics and Music and a Master of Business Administration in Global Business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
