Jim Presmanes is vice president and director of risk management and insurance for Havertys, a full-service home furnishings retailer with more than 100 showrooms in 16 states in the Southern and Midwestern regions of the U.S.
A student of American Renaissance literature during his undergraduate days, Jim later earned an MBA in risk management and insurance, an M.S. in finance and a graduate certificate in enterprise risk management, all from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.
For 23 years, Jim has been managing corporate risk for Havertys where his practice is focused on minimizing the cost of risk through effective implementation of large deductible insurance plans. He also leads Havertys’ enterprise risk assessment practice and chairs the company’s risk committee.
At the 2015 annual RIMS Conference in New Orleans, Jim was a featured speaker on the effects of the housing bubble and financial collapse on the furniture industry. In 2016, Jim presented a paper he co-authored on macro risk analysis at the RIMS ERM Conference in Atlanta. He has also been a featured speaker at the Annual Conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Jim serves on the Risk Management Advisory Council of Liberty Mutual Insurance and the Annual Conference Programming Committee at RIMS. He is a member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Safety Sub-Committee.
Jim shares his extensive knowledge and experience with up-and-coming risk professionals and is in his sixth year of teaching corporate risk management to undergraduate students at the Robinson College of Business.
