Prior to becoming the project lead for Risk University 2.0, Ann led the enterprise risk management and internal controls reporting team at the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). There she developed a comprehensive ERM program launching VBA on a path from a nearly nonexistent ERM program to one that is one of the best in the Department of Veterans Affairs She was also instrumental in developing and delivering the “VBA ERM Mini Boot Camp” which equipped over 200 employees with fundamental risk management skills, conducted risk workshops for business lines and streamlined the internal controls reporting process.
Previously, she served as project manager for implementation of the Appeals Modernization Act and as a strategic planner in VBA.
Ann joined the VA after retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. She served in a variety of command and staff positions, including deploying to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division as the deputy personnel officer for Combined Joint Task Force 76, a 20,000 strong multinational task force responsible for combat and humanitarian operations in eastern Afghanistan. Her final assignment was as the Chief of Officer Accessions where she coordinated policy for 20,000 officer appointments annually.
