Andrea Peoples is the Senior Policy Advisor on Enterprise Risk Management for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Since assuming this role in 2015, she has been advising Agency leadership on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) as well as leading the implementation of ERM across the Agency. Andrea also serves as the alternate chairperson for the SBA’s Senior Management Council, which is responsible for ensuring the Agency has an effective system of internal control. Prior to this position, she spent 7 years with the SBA’s Office of Credit Risk Management where she last served as a regional supervisor managing credit risk for SBA’s largest loan portfolios.
Before joining the federal government, Andrea worked for the District of Columbia Government where she conducted audits for the Office of Integrity and Oversight and examinations for the Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking. She also brings over a decade of private sector experience in lending, having held roles in underwriting, real estate sales, loan origination, and loan asset sales.
Andrea has been a speaker and an instructor at many professional conferences and trainings including AICPA, AGA, AFERM, the Potomac Forum, and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Center for Leadership Development. Andrea graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business Management from Bridgewater State University and holds a M.B.A. with a Finance concentration from Strayer University. Since 2014, she has held a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) from The Institute of Internal Auditors and in 2018, she became a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
