Mr. Kalwant (Kevin) Smagh, is the Director of CDC’s Office of Strategic Business Initiatives (OSBI). In this role, Kevin is the agency deputy chief risk officer and lead for implementing enterprise risk management and governance and directing compliance reviews and monitoring. Additionally, he is responsible for managing CDC’s federal advisory committee act program, is the agency liaison to the HHS office of the inspector general office of investigations, and provides analysis and management for CDC’s policies, records management, delegations of authority, and reorganization processes, as well as implementing change management and process improvement capabilities supporting agency-wide business services. Past CDC leadership positions include assignments as Director, Office of Finance and Accounting Services in the Office of Financial Resources and agency senior travel official, and as a division Deputy Director for Management and Global Operations in the Center for Global Health. Kevin came to CDC in 2012 from the Air Force where he completed a 20-year career as an active duty officer. His military assignments included audit and finance, commanding two Air Force squadrons, serving as the military assistant to the Air Force’s Chief Financial Officer at the Pentagon, overseas assignment in Japan and the Middle East supporting contingency operations. Organizations he led earned recognition for excellence from the Air Force and the Department of Defense. Kevin is a graduate of the Air Force Academy, holds a Masters in Economics from the University of Oklahoma, and a Masters in Military Operational Art and Science from the USAF’s Air Command and Staff College, and completed Harvard University Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership’s National Preparedness Leadership Initiative program. He is married and has two grown sons.
